Transitions offers a wide range of awareness and prevention instruction to public and private school children of all ages, with each program tailored to fit the issues confronting the audience.  We are also happy to design and present a custom program based on a client's specific needs or concerns.

In addition, our services are not limited to school districts - community organizations, government agencies and corporate/industrial clients are all included in our client list.

Some of our program offerings are outlined below.  For more information, or to schedule a program, please contact our Education Director, Heather S., at the telephone number above, or by email: heather_s@svwit.org

Education Outreach Programs:
Acquaintance Awareness

The Story of Corey and Emily: A story-time presentation that explains to children the difference between those who are strangers, that they don't know at all, and those who are "acquaintances" - people that they see once in a while.  It shares the experiences of two children learning about safety when it comes to people that they have been "friendly" with, but should be cautious of when they are around. Kindergarten
Good Touch/Bad Touch

Little Bear: A video skit that presents the topic of good touches and bad touches and how they affect those involved.  It explains several positive and non-positive gestures and touches and allows those viewing the video to discuss what happened and how it turned out for the characters.
1st Grade

What Tadoo With Secrets:  An interactive classroom discussion with a video presentation about secrets - how secrets make us feel, which secrets are OK to keep and which should never be kept; scenarios are discussed that help children recognize that there are times when keeping secrets can be fun, and other times when keeping secrets can be dangerous.
2nd Grade

When Should You Tell?:  In this compelling video, a young girl candidly describes to the audience what happened to her when a relative babysitting her made inappropriate contact with her - her feelings, fears and how she eventually got help.  This program helps abused children know they're not alone and helps to keep others safe by promoting awareness to inappropriate touching.
3rd Grade

Healthy Choices

Teasing or Bullying: An interactive program that contains several sequential core lessons comprised of writing activities, reading assignments, class discussions, role plays, and case studies that encourage children to think about distinctions between "teasing" and "bullying."  These activities help children focus on the boundaries between appropriate - inappropriate/playful - hurtful behavior.
4th Grade

Building Healthy Relationships: Under the management of a "magical" baseball coach, youngsters learn the skills they need to determine the healthiness of the relationships they are in, how to stand up for themselves and their values, and how to resolve their conflicts constructively using positive communication skills.
5th Grade

Popularity: What's the Price?: While most students want desperately to be thought of as "popular," few think about the price they might have to pay to get into or remain in the "popular crowd."  This program follows the stories of four young teens who are faced with situations that force them to grapple with the issues arising from the dynamics of popularity.
6th Grade

Talking About Sexual Harassment: An in-class training session is the setting for a discussion of sexual harassment.  Students learn to define the meaning of harassment, discuss how people respond to it, explore ways to prevent it, and how to go about reporting harassment should they experience or observe it.
7th Grade

Dating Violence, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

When Dating Turns Dangerous: This dramatic program addresses the growing problem of dating violence.  Pointing out that teens often don't know what to expect in a "normal" relationship, this video-centered program clearly describes the behavioral patterns associated with dating abuse.
8th Grade

Date Rape/Date Rape Drugs - "Rave Parties":  Videos provide powerful stories, both dramatized and real, that demonstrate to young people the dangers posed by "club drugs" and "date rape drugs."  Students are provided with dating violence statistics, discuss the mechanics of a respectful relationship, review the dynamics and the cycle of abuse, learn the definitions of acquaintance and statutory rape, and examine a number of prevention and awareness issues and strategies for dealing with "club/date rape drugs."
